It's official: I've lost my mind

BREAKING NEWS: Tessa Dare's Goddess of the Hunt wins the coveted Orange Rose
Congratulations Tessa! And ummm...I told you so...

Well, did ya notice the new icon? Did ya? That's right. Last year, I was unable to participate in the insanity of NANO on account of I had revisions. Revisions are punishable by death on NANO. This year, it seems I've FINISHED MY REVISIONS. Hold the applause-oh what the heck, go ahead and applaud! So I'm plotting my new TOP SECRET MEDICAL THRILLER, and I thought: Wouldn't NANO be a great way to get the first 50,000 words written? Yep, of course it would. So I signed up. And I went to my profile page and under "Writing buddies" it says, "Zero." Huh? I have lots of writing buddies. Is anybody with me on this?

You are braver than I. Nano is one hell of an undertaking. Good luck!

I'm joining the insanity India. I'm in my first draft and I need a kick start.

I know I'm not supposed to bring an existing manuscript, but no one's going to rat me out, are they?

Please?

Well, I think it will be a great incentive to work at maxium capacity. I'm ready to give it a whirl.

And Marnee Jo, of course I won't rat you out. We can be buddies!
What are you working on? Or is it top secret, too?

Marnee Jo said...

nah, not top secret. I just want to push myself on my current WIP. I felt like I stalled out this past couple weeks and I want to get going again.

I think I'm in that internal editor phase, now that I have about a quarter done. I'm having a hard time resisting the urge to go back and edit myself.

I thought Nano would help me avoid that urge.

And I requested we be buds, so yay! We're writing buddies now!!

I consider you a 'buddy', dear, although nano is not in my future. But that made me grin, the thought of you with zero buddies.

As if!! :)

Yay, India! I wish I could join you, but you know I'll be cheering you on!

Whew... I'm so glad my secret is safe with you guys! I just really needed something to get me moving. :)

Marnee Jo, your secret is soo safe with me. Yay for buddies!

Aw, Gillian. You're my buddy on or off NANO!

Tessa Dare! Love the new look! You and CM are going to be hearing me whine all during November. So in a way, you're going to be suffering through NANO too!

I can't NANO this year. I started my rough draft two months ago. They won't let me keep going on it even though it's a 90,000 word MS.

Hey India, when are you going to drop by the FanLit Forever celebration?

Yes, you have lost your mind!! I did that last year and that was it for me. I wanted to finish a book. I did. I'm done. It was a great motivator but now I have two pots on the fire and NANO would stress me out. The biggest thing though is my son comes home at 2:30 now instead of 5:30. Those 3 hrs have a huge impact on my ability to get stuff done!! Good luck Amy. I hope you see the 50k mark at the end of November.

I didn't do it last year, I'm not doing it this year--- although I'm 20 pages into something new I started last weekend that I hate already. The last 13,000 (less, if I can get away with it) words on my current WIP are just nowhere to be found. Of course, I haven't been looking too hard, either. Super good luck with NaNo!

How are you doing with nanowrimo, India?

Did you see that I added you as a buddy?

I'm doing OK, I hit the 5,000 word mark today. I'll have to produce more each day if I want to get to 50,000 though. This is really working for me right now, but last year I joined up, wrote 3000 words and promptly dropped out. But that was OK because my life was just too crazy to do it then.

Bev, Alice, Maggie, thanks for the support!

Lenora, Hey! Yes, I buddied you too. Er....how am I doing? Not great. I wanted to motivate myself to start my thriller. But the plot is complex, and I haven't (choke) put words to paper yet. I thought about just owning up to my mistake and quitting, but then I decided to stay and do NaNo in the way that will be most productive for me. So I'm counting my plotting and character building as part of my work. I'll probably actually start writing around the 14th or 15th. I bet I can still wind up with 20-25,0000 words and then carry on into next month. 5000 words is awesome! What are you working on? Oh--and I can't ever get on the dang site to buddy people!

Marnee Jo said...

India, that's great! Plotting counts in my book. And really, Nano is just about getting it going. Yeah, they have rules, but I've always been a bit of rulebreaker that way! ;)

Congrats on planning! Go India!

Good luck with the insanity this year...we had illness (flu and now colds) to the point that I'm glad I didn't even start!

Marnee JO and Ericka, thanks for the support! At least I'm plotting, researching and tick-tocking on my characters.

Okay, I've removed my NaNo emblem. A casualty of overenthusiasm and lack of preparedness. My dream of 50K at the end of November has now been revised to 100K by the end of June. Now that, I should be able to do!!
