YET MORE BREAKING NEWS: COURTNEY MILAN FINALS IN THE PRESTIGIOUS GOLDEN PEN!
OCT. 12th: BREAKING NEWS: BALLANTINE BOOKS AQUIRES TESSA DARE'S TRIOLOGY IN AN AMAZING AUCTION THAT LASTED 3 NAIL BITING DAYS! WORLD, MEET LUCY!
We've had so much good fortune around here, I thought it time to celebrate. Do you recognize this box of Lucy's Chocolates? This yummy treat was a previous contest giveaway. However, the contestant who won them, doesn't eat chocolate. I know! Shakes head.
So in honor of one of my all-time favorite heroines, I thought I'd give you folks another shot. I'm speaking of course of Lucy Waltham, the feisty heroine of Tessa Dare's fabulous Goddess of the Hunt.
What I love about Lucy: Her spunk. Her joie de vivre. Her determination. Her take-no-prisoners attitude toward life. In short--everything!
No fair picking a heroine in an unpublished book? Perhaps not. But you can meet Lucy by reading this excerpt from GOTH.
But how do you win the chocolates? Easy. Just tell me about one of your favorite heroines. Someone from your own manuscript would be lovely!
Winner chosen by random drawing and announced Oct. 15th. Good luck everyone!
Alternate prize for any poor soul who cannot eat chocolate: Ten dollar gift card to Borders.

This is a hard question, because I love TOO MANY heroines. I recently reread "And Then He Kissed Her" by Laura Lee Guhrke, and I just LOVE Emma Dove. She's absolutely marvelous.
There's Lisa Kleypas's Amelia, in "Mine Till Midnight." Lucy, in "The Serpent Prince."
And of course, there's Dr. Gwen Andrews--because I'm a sucker for strong intelligent women with a softside!
Thank you for the shameless selfless promotion, India! Lucy thanks you.
My favorite heroines... excluding Thalia and Gwen, who go without saying...
Jessica from Lord of Scoundrels is wonderful, as are so many of Loretta Chase's heroines. Elizabeth Bennet is my perennial highbrow favorite. And I think I must say Bridget Jones, too, because I fear I have more in common with her than with the other two. Sigh.
Courtney, you forgot to mention Thalia! We want to hear about everyone's unpubbed heroines and what makes them heroic! What I love most about Thalia is her sharp wit(among other things).
Tessa, I adore Lucy! She's so sassy. I'll be blasphemous and say I'm not enamoured of Elizabeth Bennet. Jane was my favorite in P and P. But thanks for reminding me of Bridget Jones. She's my kind of heroine.
I guess I'll set a good example and say what I love about my own heroine. I love Gwen's big heart and the way she stands up for others.
When Courtney mentioned Amelia, it reminded me of how much I admire Lisa Kleypass's Liberty in SUGAR DADDY. All spunk and heart.
You know we seem to discuss heros more than heroines. At least it seems that way to me. Hmmm.
It's more a can't than a wont on the chocolate. The books were wonderful. :D
I'll do a shout out to my CP Lacey's heroine Kitha, a down-to-earth Native American woman uninterested in become this Season's Incomparable because her sense of honor dictates she put the needs of her people before her own desires. She's feisty, strong-willed, arrogant, loyal, and hilarious. What's not to love?
Reading the comment thread, I now realize I'm supposed to dish about my heroines, not my CPs' heroines. Hmmm.
Previous WIP stars Daisy le Fey, a hopelessly unmagical ex-neurophysicist hellbent on making fairy and earning her wings in order to prove herself worthy of her the respect of her peers---until she finds herself on Earth and discovers a whole new set of complications. The thing I find most endearing about Daisy is her tendency to roll full steam ahead the moment she sets her sights on a goal, and her conviction there's nothing she can't do if she just tries hard enough.
Current WIP stars Miss Evangeline Pemberton, a twenty-year-old recent orphan on the run from her abusive lech of a stepfather, who finds herself trapped in a dark mansion with a mysterious man suspected of murder--some old, some new--and the distressing affliction of suffering psychic visions every time she has skin to skin contact. The elements that epitomize Evangeline to me are her unshakable conviction she's always in the right (she's wrong *g) and her instinctive tendency to lend a hand to anyone she feels is in need.
Hey there, thanks for stopping my blog and posting your own rewrite trauma. It makes it easier to bear knowing I'm not the only one who's had to throw out pages upon pages. *sigh*
My favorite heroine of my own creation? hmmm... I guess that would be Ella from Whispers. Probably why I matched her with one of my favorite heros, Sawyer. :-)
Sounds like you have a fun and lively blog going here! cliche, I know, but I'll be back. *grin*
Alice, I'm so sad that you can't eat chocolate. But hey, more for the rest of us! Thanks for playing. I have an alternate prize available just for folks like you!
Erica, well of course you can rave about your CP's heroine! But thanks for sharing your own with us. An unmagical ex-neruophysicist trying to make fairy? That rocks. Can't wait to read her in print.
And Erin, I'm so happy you stopped by! I haven't had a chance to read Whispers yet, but I loved Tess from Echoes.
In case some of you don't recognize Erin Grady, she's the award winning author of Web of Smoke, Echoes and Whispers . If you love fabulous writing and out-of-the-box suspense, you should check these out! There's a link to her blog on the blogroll.
Can I say Gwen? Oh, CM already did. I totally agree with her. I love Gwen. She is so real, not untouchable, like many professional doctors are around here.
Then there is my Fiona, a lady by birth, a warrior by necessity.
Awww, thanks for the headline news, India!
Gwen, Thalia, and Lucy need to have a big party SOON! Lucy will bring the claret.
Hey, Renee! Great to see you. I'd love to meet Fiona. She sounds wonderful!
And hugs and congrats, Tessa. You are our inspiration. Yes, Lucy, Thalia, and Gwen are gonna rock the OC in the very near future! And hopefully we'll be posing for pics with you and your Orange Rose trophy!
Hey, I just realized Erin Grady is a prior Orange Rose winner. So that means if Tessa wins, we'll have two on one blog!
Wow, what great company.
Well, now I have a whole new list of heroines to root for! Still really excited for Tessa on the first of what I hope will be many more sales to come!! To tell the truth I really like the heroine of my novel LOST IN LOVE. Addy is 18 years old and thru a strange set of circumstances ends up married to the man of her dreams. He is a duke, a war hero, and a curmudgeon. She doesn't care. She is fearless, unimpressed with his consequence and bluster and determined to make him fall in love with her and she TELLS him so. In addition to everything else, she helps to "rescue" abused horses from their owners in part because of a vow she has made to a childhood friend. She is loyal, sassy, determined/stubborn and the eternal optimist. I like her.
My goodness, Doglady, Addy sounds like someone we all know and love! I love that she rescues abused animals! And yes, I'm thrilled, thrilled, thrilled, for the amazing Ms. Dare. I have a feeling there will be many others in our group (you among them)joining her in the PAN in the near future!
Ooh, Pamela - I'm dying to read Addy's story! She sounds wonderful!
Kitha, my heroine in If You Asked the Devil to Dance, is a fierce, passionate warrior who makes no excuses for the men she's killed.
And contest judges love her :-)
Thanks, Tessa and India! Addy is definitely one of a kind. Not many girls can have the phaeton in which they are riding fall into an underground cave and come out a duchess! Lacey, is Kitha for hire? I have some assistant managers I would love for her to take on!
Yay, Renee! And everyone else--what awesome heroines y'all are writing.
Hugs and congrats, Courtney! What's with the "y'all"? Dallas was months ago!
Lacey, Kitha sounds like one of those unique heroines I'd love to read. You've really intrigued me with the "makes no excuses for the men she's killed," bit.
Waves at Tessa and Pam!
My heroine, Cory, is a bluestocking with a penchant for getting into awkward situations and a decided lack of finesse getting out of them. She's my outlet for all the times I've said the wrong thing or been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I can't wait to read all of your fiesty and fun heroines! They sound great. And again, Tessa, congrats. I can't wait to read more about Lucy!
My current favorite heroine is Sapphire McKenzie...she's a vampire with a very human problem...agoraphobia. What's worse, is she's a private detective who needs to save her true love from a murder charge. And she's going to have to leave home to do it!
Hopefully you can read all about her sometime next summer!
OMG, I'm so embarrassed now. I totally didn't read this thread, and somehow she's already been mentioned!
Thanks, Erica!
And thanks for the interest, India. I'm crossing my fingers...
